First Dutch ISP consolidates
At one of the major Dutch ISP the access method is changed. The aim was to consolidate the network providers to the Dutch incumbent, who is the shareholder.
Up now the wholesale product MxStream was one of the only methods of access providers had to deliver to their customers. The alternative has been an own network, or a network of one of the alternative operators.
Since a few months also Bitstream (now Wholesale ADSL) is available to residential customers. There are quite some differences to the original service provided by KPN.
With the introduction of Bitstream the ISP has to deploy all services on his own:
• network access control
• change procedures
• technical moves
• physical moves
• technical support (except for the copper)
At the ISP the project facilitating the changes, including the operational support, was managed. This in an environment not directly suited for these types of mission critical applications. When starting the project it was already over 6 months behind schedule.
